Moon and Jupiter Come Close - A Rare Spectacle Tonight

November 09, 2011 is going to be an unforgettable auspicious day according to the Hindu mythology. In a recent planetary research observation, it has come to notice that Jupiter will be making its closest approach to Earth this Wednesday night at around 8.30 pm today.

Jupiter (Brihaspati- in Vedic astrology), is now larger and brighter than at any other time between 1999 and 2023. 'Jupiter' reaches its highest point in the sky to show a steady pic on favorable night.

According to the sources, the Moon moves slowly by brilliant "Star" with a steady glow, that star is none other than king of the planets named 'Jupiter'. U.S planetary scientists have already seen the Moon winged around 10 degrees above and right to the super king star - Jupiter. So tonight, the Moon and Jupiter will be separated by "One fist".

According to the Hindu religion and mythology, the 9 planets occupy an important role. Indian Hindus' worship these 9 planets as 'Gods'. The planet deities are referred as Navagraha and plays a significant impact on the lives of individuals. Therefore Hindus treat these nine planets as deities, so that they bring peace and harmony in their life.        

In Vedic astrology, Jupiter is called as Brihaspati, Guru and Devaguru. In Sanskrit language these names means -  Lord of light, Teacher, and Teacher to the Gods. Jupiter generally considered to be the most auspicious of all planets. Vedic astrology uses the seven observable planets Sun, Mars, Moon, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn, along with north and south nodes named 'Rahu and Ketu'.

The Moon is called Chandra and in Sanskrit Chandra means 'Bright and Shining'. It is also called Soma, named after the intoxicating sacred drink used in Vedic sacrifice. Worship of Moon is said to be advantageous for relief from all difficulties, healing all mental afflictions etc. The cool rays from Moon gives happiness around and admires the head of Lord Shiva.

According to the Hindu calendar, November month considered as an auspicious month "Karthika Masam". Its starts from 23 October and ends on 21 November every year. Karthika Masam is the favorite month for Lord Shiva amongst all 12 months. It starts just the next day of Deepavali - Amavasya. Hindu devotees treat this month as a holy month for several reasons in Vedic mythology.

The Hindu devotees are getting ready to watch the spectacular event where Jupiter moves closest to Moon and this rare combination falls around 8.30 pm today. It also it is being consider as Lord Shiva's auspicious month.
