20 Killed in Xinjiang: China Faults Terror Camps in Pakistan
On Monday, China made the "extremists" who got trained in the terror camps in Pakistan responsible for conducting attacks on civilians in the distressing Xinjiang province. It is recorded that about 20 people, including so-called militants, were killed in the fierce incidents during the last couple of days.
Around nine people died in the violence on Saturday, another 11, including five alleged militants, were died on Saturday night in another attack. The Kashgar Municipal Government released a statement that the militants who got trained by the 'East Turkistan Islamic Movement' in Pakistan were accountable for this violent attack.
"A group of religious extremists led by culprits trained in overseas terrorist camps were behind the weekend attack on civilians in China's far-western Xinjiang," state run Xinhua news agency quoted the statement as saying.
"Initial probe has shown that the heads of the group had learned skills of making explosives and firearms in overseas camps of the terrorist group East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM) in Pakistan before entering Xinjiang to organize terrorist activities," it said.
During the year 2009, Xinjiang province experienced huge riots and due to these riots about 200 people have died in its capital city Urumqi. This attack had forced China to initiate severe restrictions against Uyghur Muslim Separatists.
According to the reports, in the year 2011, 14 "rioters" were killed on July 18th when they attacked a police station and murdered four people in the Hotan City. This is probably the first time China blamed Pakistan by mentioning the ETIM camps there. Xinjiang shares its borders with Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and majority of the trade activities between China and Pakistan is channelized through Kashgar due to its close proximity to the border.
On Sunday evening the militants surrounded a restaurant in the Kashgar city before setting the place on fire. This violent attack made six civilians and five militants succumb to the fire and eventually lose their lives.
On Sunday night, five 'suspects' were shot dead by the police while four others were arrested. The Xinhua report states that fifteen people, including three policemen were wounded in the attack.
