Gayam 2
Thank god Ramgopal Verma has finally got over and exhausted various angles on Horror & Supernatural phenomenon... In "Gaayam 2", one can observes few glimpses of talent, which belongs to an once-upon-a-time exceptionally brilliant film-maker. When nothing seemed to be working in RGV's favour, he has gone back to learn a bit from his old films and hence dishes out the sequel to Gaayam!

The movie opens in the beautiful city of Bangkok, where Ram (Jagpati Babu), his wife Vidya and kid seem to be living a blissful life by the beach side in a cosy, pretty home... But when two tough looking thugs cause mayhem in Ram's restaurant, he shoots them to stop them from harming the waitress. Surprised by his actions and worried, he feels disturbed and his concern is shared by his pretty wife Vidya...

When the news of his bravery and courage goes live on a tv channel, alarm bells ring in the mind of a politician-cum-goon GuruNarayan back in India. Apparently Ram is the exact look-alike of Durga, the daredevil from Gaayam, who was feared by everyone and could survive the toughest of situations & fights... But the question that arises is- He was dead years ago, then who is this guy appearing to be a replica of Durga? GuruNarayan's criminal-minded, scheming lawyer along with Shankar Narayan, the son of Guru Narayan, head to Bangkok to find out the truth for themselves...

The first half of the movie is spent with the lawyer and the goon's son trying to find out the truth and knowing whether the law-abiding, family man Ram is in actuality Durga.

Ramgopal Verma's signature style is present in this movie too, wherein the story moves at a sluggish pace in the first half and suddenly picks up pace after the interval...

A Ram finally spills the beans to his wife about his dark & violent past, one goes back in time to the blockbuster "Gaayam" where Jagpati Babu in the nineties looked extremely handsome and menacing in the rugged role of an innocent citizen turned rowdy Durga. Revathy's cameo role in the film adds charm to this sequel as it refreshes memories of the amazing eighties and nineties.

As Ram heads to India, to finish off the legacy of the wicked Guru Narayan who wants to be the CM at any cost whatsoever. Watch the movie to see Jagpati Babu back in action as the honest, fighter for justice Durga who tactfully goes about destroying the regime of various goons ruining the political system.

The movie also picks up the topic of students being dragged into the dirty tactics and games of cunning politicians who twist situations in their favour by causing havoc in the city, indirectly prompting students to involve in political issues and destroying innocent lives...

Inspite of a good performance from Jagpathi Babu, Kota Srinivas as GuruNarayan, steals the show with this brilliant portrayal of a power-hungry, dirty politician and delivers his strong dialogues in great style... Tanikella Bharani as the lawyer is extremely convincing in his role and yet again proves himself to be a great performer like always. Vimala Raman, who plays the role of Jagpathi Babu's wife, is beautiful and plays her bit well in the first half of the movie... Illaya Raja's compositions fall short of expectations and do not register as memorable tunes in the minds of listeners.

Overall, Gaayam 2 is a decent attempt but lacks the spunk and energy of the hard-hitting Gaayam...

Maybe while watching the movie, we should not compare it with the earlier version. In the earlier version, Guru Narayan is killed in a bomb explosion and Jagapati Babu survives it. In the sequel, it is shown Guru Narayan is still alive (wow) and Jagapati Babu sort of banished. So, no comparisons please. Just enjoy the show.
