Kanyakumari....A Place That Can Never Be Forgotten !

Kanyakumari is named after Goddess Kumari Amman or perhaps after Kanyakumari temple situated there. The town is on the confluence of three popular water bodies, the Indian ocean, the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. The town has been known for its centuries' art and its culture and various popular religions flourished in its heyday. It was ruled by the Cholas, the Cheras, the Pandyas as well as the Nayaks.
It is a popular tourist spot and naturally the Government receives much revenue. Most people living there are involved in shell-craft. Fishing is also very popular avocation. Those residing there are also pursuing other maritime activities. It has definitely a high literacy rate about 98.6%
There are several popular places to visit in Kanyakumari such as the Gandhi Mandapam. At this spot the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi were placed in an urn and kept for public view before they were immersed. The Kanyakumari Sangam is worth watching. The ocean is just beautiful. There are several Hindu temples such as Kumari Amman temple to visit. One can also visit the Light House. Then there is the famous Vivekanand Rock Memorial. One can also have a look at the Thiruvallur Statue during sunrise. One can also take some time and visit the Padmanabhapuram Palace nearabout Thuckalay.
The full moon evenings (Purnima Ratri) is exciting for a person to see. Imagine yourself spending precious moments with your beloved in front of a full moon evening. Sounds very romantic doesn't it?
