Lying along the cool and perennially flowing Sabarmati river, Ahmedabad is located in the western region of India. This city is internationally known because the great Indian freedom leader Mahatma Gandhi's Ashram is situated here. Mahatma Gandhi's deep association with Ahmedabad, has blessed this land with his memorable presence and teachings.
The historically important monuments in this city are Juma Masjid, Masjid of Sidi Sayid, Teen Darwaza or Triple Gateway, Rani Rupmati's Masjid, Rani Sipri's Masjid, Hathee Singh Jain Temple and Siddi Bashir Masjid.
Hathi Singh Jain temple was built in 1848 and made of beautiful, creamy marble. This sacred temple built in the memory of the 15th Jain Saint Dharamnath, is famous for its Intricate work, Rich Designs and Carvings.
Juma Masjid is a structure of great importance and the major place of worship for Islam followers in the city. This Masjid is a magnificent creation with its 260 pillars and 15 domes, which are perfectly arranged. This yellow sandstone structure has a royal gallery, which has astonishingly beautiful and perfect stonework adorning the walls. Juma Masjid is a precious reminder, a sample of the existence of harmony of Indian and Muslim Architecture.
Amidst this busy city, flows a peaceful, crystal clear Natural Lake, which is home to many exotic Birds that migrate from Siberia. This lake covers an area of 116 sq. Km and has flocks of birds consisting of Ducks, Pelicans, Geese, Flamingos visiting here.
Bhadra Fort is a royal palace which was constructed in 1411 A.D. during the Maratha rule. This palace is replete with Grand Domes, well-sculpted Designs, Wide Gardens and Parks. The powerful Bhadrakali temple in this palace attracts devoted disciples consistently.
In January, Ahmedabad's skies become colorful and full of activity as the International Kite Festival goes on full swing, It is a time of camaraderie and enjoyment for families, friends and the streets become abuzz with life. Akshardham temple is very popular and a architectural delight as it is carved with pink sandstone and a 7 feet pure gold statue of Lord Swami Narayan in the sanctum sanctorum. The exhibition halls in this temple stand for rich, traditional Indian culture which has been displayed with the help of light and sound shows, multimedia.
Ahmedabad is also popular for its sophisticated, metropolitan culture due to the numerous, state-of-the-Art Malls, Night Pubs, Discos and Bars in the city.
