Rani Sipri Mosque
- By Bhavini - Published: 06/22/2010
The mosque is named after a Hindu queen Rani Sipri. The queen built this mosque in 1514 A.D. after her husband executed their son for having done some bad deed. The mosque is often referred to as Masjid-e-Nagina. The place is tagged by this name because of its slender, elegant and tall minarets. After the queen's death she was buried in the premises of the mosque. This beautiful piece of creation is 50 ft high, 54 ft in length and 20 ft in breadth. It even has a 'Jenana', a separate area of worship located upstairs for women. Known for its splendid and intriguingly carved decor, this monument has gained immense fame amongst the locals and the tourists.
The 'Jali' screen work that includes flowing plants and trees is remarkable. Finely blended with both Hindu and Islamic styles of construction, this place speaks volumes through it's intricately carved and diaphanous minarets. The superb decoration and wonderful symmetry of Rani Sipri's mosque is extremely engaging and appealing. Undauntedly claimed as one of the most impressive structures of Ahmedabad, this place ranks high in the minds of people who live here.
This religious edifice through its magnetism, intricate detailed work and soothing appeal attracts devotees from every part of the city. Being a sparkling gem of Gujarat's heritage, this mosque has attained a rich cultural space in the state's history.
