Teen Darwaza

If one ever visits Ahmedabad, then shopping in the city's bazaars is a must. If that bazaar turns out to be Teen Darwaza, the experience is worth it. Teen Darwaza is a colossal gateway that's made up of three arched entrances. Constructed by Sultan Ahmed Shah in 1411 A.D, this stone gateway was built in medieval times. It offers a grand welcome to people of other states. It's one of the longest and oldest gateways of Ahmedabad and lies adjacent to the Bhadra fort. The intricate, detailed work on the triple gateway articulates this royal entrance's significance. Jehangir, a Mughal emperor, stood atop this gateway to watch the vibrant processions made from the castle to the nearby Jama Masjid. This place is known for its ornamentation, and is an epitome of Islamic heritage and architecture.

The place not only embraces royalty and rich ancient history, but also provides its tourists with a wonderful shopping spree. From the most trivial item to expensive goods, this open area has it all. With its innumerable little shops, this bazaar offers great deals for every shopaholic. Whether it be Handicrafts, Sweets or Jewellery, this heavily crowded place offers its visitors a wide range to choose from. It's a place where one should put their art of bargaining to practice. The Teen Darwaza is no less than a goldmine as one gets to see ethnic furniture and colourful fabrics. Wall hangings with Mirror work, Antiques, Cowbells, Wind chimes and Kutchi embroidered fabrics, items that exhibit traditional works and designs are available. Due to its wide variety of mind boggling items, one wouldn't mind getting lost in this market for hours. Being the city's greatest landmark, this place always attracts a great influx of tourists.
