On national education day we need to carry out an assessment of our educational system, whether it has performed well or not. One must assess the education patterns whether it is merely bookish oriented or create a mind that is in search of additional knowledge and in inquisitive thinking. Students must be able to understand issues and be able to think independently.
The 21st century education philosophy is promoting social cohesion and the idea of living together. It also believes in the concept of religious harmony. In fact, the lack of all these attributes is causing a lot of pressures on human relationships. This approach was much propagated by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, who believed in universal education could solve the problem.
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was a social activist and person who believed in promoting higher values in education. His birthday November 11th is celebrated as National Education Day. Azad wanted to see India in all its glory and achieved much distinction in the world order.
In his presidential address, which was delivered in the 1940 annual session of the Indian National Congress Azad said,"I am part of this indivisible unity that is Indian nationality. I am indispensable to the noble edifice and without me this splendid structure of India is incomplete. I am an essential element which has gone to build India. I can never surrender this claim."
Although India was partitioned Azad continued too uphold his views and worked towards a secular India and promoted this concept and belief in the educational system.
