Tirupur is the place to visit, if you are a shopaholic and a big time shopping freak. This is because the town of Tirupur is aptly called the 'Textile Town' and is the manufacturing capital of a large number of casual wear, hosiery and sportswear companies. There are many export houses here in Tirupur that are successful and fast growing. Walmart, Switcher, Diesel, Army, Tommy Hilfiger, M&S, FILA, H&M, Pink lemonade, HTHP, Whale, Reebok, VALUE, Pitstop are just a few of the international brands and retailers who import their garments from Tirupur. Its factories export knitwear and hosiery products all over the world and provide employment for about 600,000 people.
Tirupur is well connected to the rest of Tamil Nadu by a network of buses and trains. It's proximity to the main city of Coimbatore adds to its advantages, as the city of Coimbatore has a major airport. Tirupur has a railway station and almost all express trains that ply down south stop here. Regular trains are available from the cities and towns of Coimbatore, Erode, Bangalore, Salem, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kanyakumari.
The climate in the town of Tirupur is generally pleasant and it hardly rises beyond a point. The monsoon months are the months of June, July and August. This is a very good time to visit the town of Tirupur as you can travel to every corner in the city without facing the brunt of the summer heat.
One of the chief landmarks of Tirupur is the Noyyal River, which divides the city into two halves, the north and the south. The Tirupur Kumaran Memorial Statue nears the railway station pays homage to the memory of Tirupur's famous freedom fighter. The Town Hall and Corporation Memorial pillar (with a globe on its top) are other places of interest here.
